If you find that the medicine doctors give you for acne either work for a few months and then the acne returns or make you ill it might be time to use an herbal acne cure. The earlier herbal cures had no basis in science but people used them because the shape of the herb meant something to the practitioners or the herbs past use demonstrated an aid in curing acne. Today there are scientific studies that show often the simple combination of specific herbs have a dramatic effect on boosting the body’s natural ability to fight off acne or changing the chemical balance of the body to eliminate a friendly growing environment for the acne germs.

Acne doesn’t come from just one cause but a variety of them. Not everyone with a weaker immune system develops acne nor does everyone with a hormone imbalance. Each person with a case of acne has a unique body chemistry and reason for the acne to develop a stranglehold on the skin.

Herbal acne cures often contain cutting-edge science combined with years of proven effectiveness. The herbs contained in many of the treatments are often the basis for study by drug companies and universities. The drug companies of course want to isolate the part of the herb that helps clear the acne then patent and sell it at an exorbitant price.

Sometimes it is not just one herb or one component of a single herb that effectively fights the acne. Sometimes it’s the interaction of the various components of the herb which provides relief for the acne victim. Other herbal remedies use multiple herbs. That is because an outbreak of acne has several causes.

A person suffering from acne may have all the predisposing problems or simply one or two. Herbal acne cures contain ingredients to attack all the influential factors that cause acne outbreaks. One herb might help normalize the body’s hormones while the other helps improve the skin’s health or strengthen the immune system.

Even better than the fact that herbal acne cures help bring relief from acne is the fact they do not require time-consuming expensive doctor’s office visits. They also do not involve dangerous drugs with potential side effects. These natural cures actually help your body in other ways besides just curing your acne.

The ingredients in the herbal cures are time tested and safe for most people. Like any food or drug some people may be allergic to the ingredients. If you have any food allergies always read the ingredients in herbal acne cures before you use them to avoid any type of reaction.

Herbal acne cures are the newest method for treating acne and yet also one of the oldest. The modern herbal treatments combine the effective herbs from yesteryear and add to it other herbs now found effective in helping the underlying causes of acne. Whether you find the doctor’s prescription drugs no longer help worry about damaging your health with prescription drugs or have had a bad reaction to prescription medication herbal acne cures are a viable alternative to help clear your skin of acne and maintain good health besides.

Is Milk Thistle Safety Acceptable?

Let’s face it.  Milk thistle safety is good, but what about the effectiveness?  That depends on the quality of the extract or supplement and what it is being used for.  If you are in the market for a new dietary supplement, here’s what you need to know.

Whether your concerns are the health of your body or the appearance of your skin, there is only one dietary supplement that you simply cannot do without.  That one is fish oil.

Assuming you are already taking fish oil, it is a good idea to invest in a multi-nutritional formula.  It is becoming more and more difficult to get all of the basic vitamins and minerals that we need every day, through diet, alone.  Mostly, that’s because of the mass production of foodstuff.

Some multi-nutritional formulas are better than others.  The big companies, with names that you know and trust, use synthetic vitamin E and other ingredients derived from petrochemicals.  Although scientists may be afraid to say it, there is no reason to believe that synthetic vitamins are good for your health.  If they are derived from petrochemicals, they could actually cause health problems.

So, your best bet is a multi-nutritional formula that contains all natural ingredients, no additives, no artificial colorings and no chemical preservatives.  Probably one of the reasons that the milk thistle safety is so good is because there is no synthetic version of the supplement.  It’s all natural.

Some multi-nutritional formulas contain the extract.  So, you can get all of your basic vitamins and minerals, as well as some herbal extracts that support liver function and immune system health.  Unless you want to take a handful of different pills every day, it makes since to look for a supplement that contains everything that you want.

It’s understandable that people have questions about milk thistle safety.  The news is always reporting about dietary supplements being recalled or removed from the market, because customer’s experience adverse reactions.  One of the most recent recalls was for hydroxy-cut, a body building and weight loss aid that was found to cause liver damage.

You see, manufacturers are not required to prove that a supplement is safe, before putting it on the market.  It is actually up to the FDA or researchers to prove that it is not safe.  The same thing is true of cosmetic ingredients.  Until someone becomes ill or dies, the manufacturers can include any ingredients they want.

The milk thistle safety profile has proven to be very good, even at very high doses.  But, the effectiveness is not that great, when it is taken by mouth, unless other ingredients are included in the formula.  Researchers refer to that as bioavailability.  When injected directly into the bloodstream it works to protect the liver.  When taken orally, it doesn’t work that well.

In conclusion, ways to improve bioavailability have been found.  For example, the inclusion of lecithin has no effect on milk thistle safety, but it does improve the bioavailability and enhance the effectiveness.  You might want to learn more about bioavailability, before you buy.

Chemical Free Skin Care at Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database

Ever since reading the book Living Green by Greg Horn, I’ve been much more focused on trying to eliminate harmful chemicals from my life, especially in the area of makeup and body products. As the author pointed out, skin is the body’s largest organ, and why put something on your skin that you wouldn’t want to eat or can’t pronounce?

With so many independent and organic bath & body companies out there, on Etsy.com and the rest of the web, it’s fairly straightforward to find soaps and lotions that are all natural and don’t include harmful chemicals. Some things are a little trickier… makeup for instance. There are some fabulous handmade mineral makeup companies on Etsy.com such as Orglamix and Mixology Makeup, who both sell a variety of eyeshadows, foundation and other mineral makeup that are free of toxins and chemicals found in some more mainstream mineral makeup.

The thing that’s really been bugging me lately is mascara. I haven’t exactly seen an indie solution to that one yet. Ideal Bite has a tip dedicated to non-toxic mascaras, but I also just discovered this other great site through one of their recent tips: Skin Deep, the cosmetic safety database.

This incredible site was launched in 2004 and gives easy to navigate safety ratings for almost a quarter of the beauty & body products on the market — over 27,000 products with over 7,000 ingredients. I switched to Crystal deodorant, shortly after finishing reading Living Green. I compared my old antiperspirant-deodorant, Dove, with the new deodorant on the Skin Deep list. On a safety rating scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest hazard, Dove has a rating of 6 and my new Crystal deodorant has a 0 rating. Considering that many antiperspirant-deodorants have been linked with breast cancer, I’m really glad I decided to make this switch. I’ve been really happy too; I’ve now been using the Crystal deodorant for about a year and I really like it. It lasts FOREVER. It seems like hardly any is gone from the stick. Yes, it’s not an antipersperant, so if that’s what you’re after this isn’t your solution. But antipersperants aren’t exactly good for you anyway. I love this stuff.

Skin Deep is a really great resource if you’re concerned about the chemicals you put onto your body. I recommend making yourself a cheat sheet of better alternatives to look for while at the store by using the recommendations available at Skin Deep.
